Volunteer Recognition: Recognizing the Gas Supply Task Force
This post is part of our Volunteer Recognition series
The Gas Supply Task Force is a permanent advisory task force reporting to the NGA Board of Directors and is chaired by the Board’s Vice-Chair. The Task Force is responsible for:
- Monitoring regional gas system deliverability during the winter.
- Facilitating assistance to companies in need of gas supply, if necessary.
- Providing updates to state government agencies and Northeast electric grid operators.
- Coordinating public information on regional gas supply contingencies and conservation appeals during peak demand or supply curtailment.
- Gathering and distributing aggregated member company gas supply information for our Gas Supply Manual for confidential distribution to key stakeholders.
During the winter-heating months, the committee holds one regularly scheduled meeting a month. Additionally, the committee will convene at the request of any member at any time, whenever certain temperature thresholds are met (i.e. consecutive days below 20 degrees), or in case of a gas supply issue such as a force majeure.
The Task Force is made up of gas supply representatives from the northeast gas LDCs, interstate pipelines, LNG facilities, and LNG/CNG trucking companies. The Task Force also welcomes participation from representatives of natural gas production companies within the Appalachian Basin. The Task Force is an essential venue for regular and open communication amongst NGA member companies throughout the heating months.
The Task Force also oversees a Communications and Public Relations Sub-Committee which can be utilized in case of communications issues relevant to winter natural gas supply. This past winter, the Sub-Committee was convened for the first time in the past decade. As a result of the Sub-Committee's work, NGA published an op-ed which appeared in several Connecticut newspapers and the Providence Journal.
