New White Paper Examines Gas System Impacts During Electric Outage Restoration
NGA Working Group Publishes Important New White Paper
A work group of NGA’s Electric/Gas Cross-Grid Management Committee recently published a new white paper, Gas Impacts During Electric Outage, designed to help natural gas operators better understand and plan for the potential impacts to gas systems during electric outage restoration events.
As electric utilities restore power—particularly during large-scale or bulk restoration efforts—natural gas systems can face a number of potential impacts. If not anticipated and managed properly, these impacts can stress gas system integrity, especially during periods of peak demand in the heating season, which can carry serious consequences.
Created by operators and for operators, the document provides a considerations framework to help minimize the potential for these adverse impacts on the gas system during electric outage restoration. This is intended to be a living document, reviewed annually and proven and refined through analysis of impacts from real events.
The Gas Impacts During Electric Outage white paper is available exclusively to NGA members and is hosted on NGA’s SharePoint site. Members interested in accessing the document or learning more should contact Glenn Meyers at gmeyers@northeastgas.org
Thank You to the Committee
