Maine Utilities, NGA Jump Into Action to Support Mutual Aid Request
On Tuesday, August 26th, Maine Natural Gas (MNG) received mutual aid support from Summit Natural Gas and Unitil to restore gas service to customers in the Gorham, ME area. A total of 77 customers—primarily residential—were affected after a 4” MDPE main was isolated for safety due to third-party damage at approximately 10:45AM.
Shortly after the main was isolated, NGA received a request to activate the Mutual Aid Agreement. By 1:30PM NGA and Maine LDCs held a Joint Mobilization Call. By 3:30PM, Mutual Aid technicians had been approved, and work was underway to restore customers. By 9:30PM, Mutual Aid support was released as nearly 90% of restorations had been completed.
This was an outstanding coordinated effort by all companies involved. Teams acted quickly, prioritized safety, and demonstrated the strength of industry collaboration.
NGA thanks the companies and technicians who acted so quickly to ensure safety and rapid restoration of services. NGA remains committed to supporting our members and ensuring swift and effective resource mobilization when incidents occur.
