Highlights from the 2024 Regional Market Trends Forum

Last Thursday, we were thrilled to host the 2024 Regional Market Trends Forum, where more than 70 industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders gathered to explore the future of the natural gas industry. The event was a tremendous success, marked by insightful discussions and valuable networking opportunities.

The forum began with an impactful presentation by Jeff Berkowitz, Founder and CEO of Delve, LLC, on the influence of public affairs in shaping energy policy, particularly as we approach the 2024 election. The importance of civic engagement and public sentiment in driving industry changes was a key takeaway, setting the stage for the day's discussions.

A major theme of the forum was the industry's role in decarbonization. Concentric Energy Advisors’ Melissa Bartos highlighted the critical steps natural gas utilities are taking to reduce emissions, navigate new regulations, and integrate alternative fuels and technologies. The discussion underscored the industry's commitment to a sustainable future and the practical challenges involved.

Consumer impacts were also a focal point, with panelists including Bryson Hull, Consumer Energy Alliance; Daniel Ortega, New Yorkers for Affordable Energy; & Ken Girardin, Empire Center for Public Policy examining how clean energy transitions will practically and financially affect both residential and commercial customers. Understanding and addressing customer expectations emerged as essential for a smooth transition to cleaner energy.

Meeting regional energy demand amidst infrastructure challenges was another significant topic. Boris Brevnov, Liberty Energy; Blair Hastey, Enbridge; Karen Iampen, Repsol Energy; & John Rudiak, Avangrid-UIL joined our panel to discuss strategies their companies are taking to ensure reliable and affordable energy supply in the Northeast, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions and collaborative efforts.

The forum concluded with a presentation by Charles Dickerson, President & CEO of Northeast Power Coordinating Council on the future of gas and electric sector coordination. The conversation highlighted the necessity of harmonizing efforts across sectors to maintain energy reliability and meet regulatory requirements.

We extend our thanks to sponsors, Enbridge, Northeast Energy Center, and Repsol, and all participants for their contributions.

Stay tuned for more updates and insights. Below are some highlights captured during the event:

We look forward to seeing you at our future events!
