Spreading the Word in April - and All Year Long

April was Safe Digging Month, and we went big to share the message with property owners and professional contractors across New England. With official proclamations from five governors, we launched a major awareness campaign in MA, ME, NH, RI, and VT to make sure "DigSafe.com or 811, Before You Dig” couldn’t be missed. Our TV PSA aired during Celtics playoff games, local news, and streaming platforms, while Red Sox and Patriots fans heard our safety messages during game broadcasts from April through November. Thanks to support from member telecom providers Comcast, Verizon, Cox Communications, and Charter, we received free TV airtime all season long.

Our message also appeared on six billboards along key interstates in MA and RI, along with a year-round sign at New Hampshire International Speedway. We even took the message to the skies with aerial banners flying over major events like the Boston Marathon, Laconia Bike Rally, July 4th at the Esplanade, the NASCAR race at Loudon, and Patriots home games at Gillette Stadium.

Let’s keep the momentum going. Every month—not just in April—remind your neighbors, friends, family, and the professionals you hire to visit DigSafe.com or call 811 before starting any excavation project, big or small.

MUST Hosts Excavation Safety Seminars throughout New England

Another successful training season in the books!

From February through mid-April, the MUST Committee (Managing Underground Safety Training) hit the road to host a series of free breakfast seminars across 18 locations in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. These popular events drew nearly 2,000 attendees—including professional excavators, municipal crews, landscapers, fence and tent installers, and safety professionals—all committed to staying up to date on excavation safety practices and preventing utility damage.

Each seminar offered a full agenda covering everything from Dig Safe notification procedures and new technology, to understanding utility markings and working safely around buried gas, electric, telecom, and propane lines. Attendees also gained insights from utility locators and enforcement agencies, as well as OSHA and state labor reps offering trench safety resources and jobsite consultation info.

A special thanks goes out to the Maine Public Utilities Commission for fully funding the seminars in Maine, and to our generous sponsors in MA, RI, NH and VT: RI Energy, Berkshire Gas, Eversource Gas, Unitil, National Grid, Kinder Morgan, M&N Operating Company, PNGTS, Liberty Utilities, Eversource Electric, NHEC, USIC, Centerline Utility Services, and Vermont Gas. Your support helps keep the excavation community informed, connected, and most importantly—safe.

Mark your calendars now for January to register for one of our MUST seminars in 2026.
