Reflecting on the Contractor Workshop and Spring Operations Conference

Looking back at an exciting week of learning, networking and cross-industry engagement in Saratoga Springs

Earlier this week, the Northeast Gas Association welcomed professionals from across our industry to Saratoga Springs for two of our cornerstone spring events—the Contractor & LDC Workshop (April 20) and the Spring Operations Conference (April 21–22).

The week began with the Contractor & LDC Workshop, which brought together 95 attendees representing contractors, suppliers, and local distribution companies from across the region. The workshop focused on the practical challenges shaping day-to-day operations, including construction issues, Pipeline Safety Management Systems (PSMS), operator qualification and training, and lessons learned from recent projects. The dialogue was candid and solutions-oriented, with participants sharing insights and identifying ways to strengthen coordination and performance across the industry.

Building on that momentum, the Spring Operations Conference followed with a record-breaking 300 attendees over two days of programming, networking, and engagement with exhibitors.

Day one launched with a fireside chat with Scott Rupff, President of Iroquois Pipeline Operating Company, in conversation with NGA’s Alana Daly. Attendees participated in sessions across three different tracks: 1) Pipeline Safety & Compliance, 2) Gas Operations: Innovation & Leading Practices, and 3) Workforce development. Attendees also spent time in the exhibit hall connecting with service providers and exploring the latest technologies and solutions supporting safe and efficient operations, including during a lively welcome reception.

On day two, keynote speaker Matthew Agen of the American Gas Association highlighted the growing importance of coordination between the natural gas and electric systems. As demand increases and operating conditions become more complex, effective alignment across these systems—including storage, firm service, market structures, and communication—remains critical to maintaining reliability.

Across both events, the week provided valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, address shared challenges, and strengthen relationships across the industry.

Thank you to all who joined us in Saratoga Springs, as well as to our speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors for their contributions. Each year, this week serves as a reminder of the collaboration, expertise, and commitment that drive our industry forward.
