Mutual Aid is more than just a response to emergencies—it’s about industry collaboration, problem-solving, and supporting each other when challenges arise. That commitment was on display recently as NGA helped facilitate a successful non-emergency mutual aid request from Con Edison.
This marked the first time NGA activated its newly developed Non-Emergency Request for Assistance Guideline, designed to streamline support for member companies during non-crisis situations.
The Request
Con Edison reached out to NGA with a non-emergency need: they were facing a temporary shortage of key gas service regulators and needed help filling the gap while their supplier worked to expedite delivery. The request included specific quantities and acceptable models from several manufacturers.
NGA quickly distributed the request to companies across our network. The response was impressive—11 companies reviewed their current inventory and quickly replied, with two able to supply the needed regulators: National Grid and UGI.
The Response
After reviewing availability and logistics, Con Edison selected UGI to fulfill the bulk of their need, 600 regulators that are vital to their day-to-day operations. UGI’s ability to provide the full quantity needed for one of the regulator categories made them the ideal partner in this case.
Con Edison’s supplier was also able to expedite the delivery of the remaining regulator models, ensuring a seamless continuation of service to their customers.
Why It Matters
This successful collaboration is a testament to the strength of NGA’s mutual aid framework—even in non-crisis situations. It also highlights the responsiveness, reliability, and camaraderie within our member network.
NGA is here to support both emergency and non-emergency needs—connecting utilities quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
If your company is ever in need of assistance—whether during a storm, a supply chain disruption, or a temporary inventory shortfall—don’t hesitate to reach out.
