NYSEARCH Showcases Innovation and Collaboration at AGA Operations Conference

The NYSEARCH team recently returned from a productive and energizing week at the American Gas Association (AGA) Operations Conference in Aurora, Colorado. The event offered an ideal platform to highlight NYSEARCH’s cutting-edge research and development initiatives that are helping to shape the future of the gas industry.

Three NYSEARCH team members delivered impactful technical presentations:

  • Suzy Chaillou, Director RD&D, Program Management, presented on the "Evaluation of GeoLocation and Pipe Damage Assessment Applications." Her presentation highlighted NYSEARCH's collaborative work with Skipper NDT (France) on innovative, non-excavation methods for locating steel pipes and assessing corrosion.
  • Andrew Bitar, Project Manager, co-presented with Chris Arrasmith of Bridger Photonics on the "Field Validation of Aerial Gas Mapping LiDAR in Gas Distribution Systems." This session focused on the practical application and validation of advanced aerial methane detection technologies.
  • Ahra Kwon, Director RD&D, Member Experience, joined Jin Zhang, PhD, P.E. of Southern California Gas Company to present on "Building a Natural Gas - Hydrogen Blend Living Lab." Their presentation explored the development of a real-world testing environment for hydrogen blending in natural gas systems.

Beyond the technical sessions, the NYSEARCH exhibit booth welcomed AGA attendees, generating momentum around potential new memberships and collaborative opportunities. The team also engaged in various AGA committee meetings, continuing its active involvement in shaping industry direction.

Mark Gunsalus, Vice President of RD&D, spearheaded successful NYSEARCH Executive Committee meetings and the NYSEARCH Robotics LLC meeting. A key highlight was a presentation by Rienk de Vries, CEO of Intero, who discussed the business success of the Explorer Robot, including royalties for utilities that funded its R&D. This meeting also reinforced the ongoing partnership between NYSEARCH and Intero for the continued research and development of the Explorer Robot Generation 2, aimed at modernizing the robot's design and advancing its integrity assessment applications.

The conference served as a valuable opportunity for NYSEARCH to showcase its leadership in innovation, connect with industry leaders, and spark new collaborations. We’re excited for NYSEARCH to build on the momentum from this successful event and continue driving forward impactful R&D for the gas industry.
