NYSEARCH Highlighted in PHMSA Report to Congress

September 25, 2024

On August 20, 2024, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration
(PHMSA) published a report to Congress titled “Integrity Assessment of Distribution Pipelines.”

The report highlights several innovative projects led by NYSEARCH, including:

  • The use of a resonant magneto-mechanical electronic marking system for plastic gas pipes.
  • The development of small- and large-diameter pipe crawlers designed to inspect live gas lines.
  • A PHMSA-backed investigation conducted by NYSEARCH exploring the feasibility of various NDE (non-destructive evaluation) sensor technologies for robotic systems on small-diameter plastic pipelines.

As one of the premier natural gas research, development, and demonstration programs in the U.S., NYSEARCH's groundbreaking work is integral to advancing pipeline safety. We are proud to see PHMSA recognize NYSEARCH’s contributions in this significant report to Congress.
