NGA Plastic Pipe Joining Committee Fall 2026 Meeting Recap
NGA Plastic Pipe Joining Committee Fall 2026 Meeting Recap

Thirty-three participants gathered for the NGA Plastic Pipe Joining Committee's fall meeting on October 28, 2026, in Saratoga Springs, New York. Discussion centered on two themes: the technology shaping the industry's future, including automated fusion machines, data loggers, and the challenges operators face with legacy pipe. Members also reviewed proposed changes to the 2027 Plastic Pipe Joining (PPJ) Manual.
Committee Chairman Frank McBrien of Con Edison opened the meeting by welcoming the committee.
Research and Testing Updates
NYSEARCH projects. NYSEARCH briefed the committee on two active projects: an automated fusion machine testing and an update on non-destructive examination (NDE) methods for inspecting fusion joints.
Standards and the 2027 PPJ Manual
The biggest regulatory item on the agenda: PHMSA is set to incorporate ASTM F2620-24 by reference in January 2027. Adam Day (NGA) led a review of proposed changes to the 2027 PPJ Manual to keep it aligned with the updated standard.
