On Thursday, October 1, the Northeast Energy & Commerce Association (NECA) will host its 2026 Fuels Conference, “A Return to All of the Above,” at the Federal Reserve Plaza in Boston.

The full-day event will bring together industry leaders and market experts to examine New England’s most pressing energy challenges. Key topics include natural gas exposure, LDC planning, the intersection of affordability and climate goals, and pipeline and LNG infrastructure developments that could reshape the region’s energy supply.

NGA President & CEO José Costa will join the panel “Natural Gas Executive Dialogue: How Do We Responsibly Meet Present and Future Needs?” alongside Shaela Collins of Shell USA, Dan Dolan of the New England Power Generators Association, and Matt Nelson of Apex Analytics. New England’s energy system faces mounting pressure from rising demand, evolving policy, and persistent reliability and affordability concerns. While the transition to a decarbonized grid is underway, load growth, pipeline constraints, and extreme weather continue to demand immediate, pragmatic solutions. These senior leaders from across the energy value chain will tackle a critical question: What tradeoffs can—and should—the region make as it balances the reliability of today’s fossil fuel infrastructure with the deployment of tomorrow’s clean energy resources? NGA Vice President Alana Daly will moderate “The 2030 Reckoning: Inside LDCs’ High-Stakes Balancing Act.” This panel will explore how local distribution companies are navigating one of the most complex planning environments in decades—balancing reliability obligations, affordability pressures, and climate mandates as existing contracts near expiration. Panelists will discuss the decisions LDCs are making today, what happens when current supply arrangements end after 2030, how proposed regional pipeline projects factor into long-term planning, and how surging peak-day demand and electrification goals are reshaping their strategies. Speakers will offer a candid look at what it takes to keep the lights on, keep bills manageable, and keep climate targets in view.
