NGA held its 2024 DOT Part 192 Pipeline Safety Regulations Workshop on October 29-30 at National Grid’s Melville Training Center in Long Island, New York. Brian Varga, Vice President of Gas Operations for Long Island & New York City at National Grid, opened the workshop, setting the stage for a dynamic learning experience with participants from across the region.
The sessions were led by Mark Hereth from the Blacksmith Group and NGA’s Bob Wilson, Vice President of Special Projects. Wilson explained the importance of thinking beyond the “word” compliance with regulations and focusing on the intent of what regulatory requirements are designed to protect.
Participants engaged in practical discussions about the real-world applicability of safety regulations in their daily work. Program instructor Mark Hereth enriched the experience by integrating elements of Pipeline Safety Management Systems (PSMS) into the discussions, allowing attendees to draw connections between PSMS principles and regulatory compliance essentials.
