NGA introduces a new Executive Leadership Development Program

Strong leadership has never been more important for the energy utility industry. As organizations navigate workforce transitions, evolving regulations, technological innovation, and changing customer expectations, investing in leadership development is critical to long-term success.

To help meet that need, the Northeast Gas Association (NGA), in partnership with Bryant University and Rutgers University, continues to offer its highly regarded Leadership in Tomorrow’s Utility programs. Designed for professionals at different stages of their leadership journey, NGA’s development pathway now includes three distinct opportunities: Leadership I, Leadership II, and new this year an Executive Leadership Development program.

Leadership I: Building a Strong Foundation for New and Aspiring Managers

For professionals taking their first steps into leadership, Leadership I provides the essential skills needed to successfully manage teams and grow as a leader. Developed in partnership with Bryant University, the program is specifically designed for new and aspiring managers seeking to strengthen their leadership foundation and prepare for greater responsibility.

Participants gain practical tools for team leadership, communication, decision-making, and management effectiveness. The program also offers valuable exposure to the unique challenges facing the natural gas and energy utility industry, helping attendees better understand the regulatory environment and broader industry landscape.

This program will kick-off next week on September 22^nd.

Leadership II: Advancing Strategic Leadership Skills

As professionals move into broader organizational responsibilities, the challenges they face become increasingly complex. Leadership II, offered in partnership with Rutgers University, is designed for mid- to upper-level managers who want to sharpen their leadership capabilities and enhance their strategic impact.

The program focuses on helping experienced leaders refine their management approach, strengthen decision-making skills, and develop a deeper understanding of the trends and conditions shaping the Northeast energy industry. Participants explore leadership topics through a highly interactive format featuring industry executives and subject matter experts.

Leadership II is ideal for managers who are leading larger teams, navigating organizational change, and preparing for senior leadership roles. By combining leadership theory with practical industry application, the program helps participants elevate both their confidence and effectiveness as leaders.

The 2026 Leadership II began on September 8^th.

Executive Leadership Program: Preparing Senior Leaders to Shape the Industry’s Future

New for NGA’s leadership portfolio is the Executive Leadership Program, a premier development experience designed specifically for senior leaders who are responsible for guiding their organizations through one of the most transformative periods in the natural gas industry.

Developed for current and emerging executive leaders, the program focuses on building the strategic, operational, and transformational leadership capabilities necessary to navigate industry change, strengthen organizational performance, and create lasting impact.

The Executive Leadership Program spans 11 months, providing participants with a comprehensive blend of immersive in-person and virtual learning, executive networking, peer collaboration, and real-world application.

The program begins in November 2026 in the Boston metro area with a three-day Executive Institute focused on foundational executive leadership competencies.

Following the opening session, participants engage in a series of monthly executive forums and peer learning sessions that tackle strategic issues shaping the future of our industry.

The second in-person session takes place in May 2027 in New York City and shifts the focus from leadership fundamentals to organizational transformation and long-term strategic impact.

The institute also features executive networking dinners and exclusive discussions with utility CEOs and former state regulatory leaders, providing participants with direct access to the experiences and perspectives of some of the industry's most influential decision-makers.

The program culminates at the NGA Annual Executive Conference in September 2027, where participants will reflect on their learning journey and continue expanding their professional network.

A Comprehensive Leadership Journey

Together, these three programs create a complete leadership development pathway:

• Leadership I helps emerging leaders build core leadership and management skills.
• Leadership II supports experienced managers as they expand their strategic leadership capabilities.
• Executive Leadership prepares senior leaders and executives to influence organizational strategy, lead transformational change, and shape the future of the energy industry.

All programs combine in-person learning with virtual sessions, providing participants access to accomplished industry leaders and subject matter experts. Beyond the curriculum, the programs provide participants with an opportunity to connect with peers from across the industry, creating relationships that are sure to continue long after the program concludes.
