A three-day, hands-on learning experience for pipeline safety professionals

Pipeline regulations are complex but applying them in day-to-day utility operations doesn’t have to be. The 2026 Part 192 Pipeline Safety Regulation Workshop will bring together instruction, practical examples, and hands-on learning to help participants understand not only what federal requirements say, but why they matter, and how to apply them.

From Regulation to Real-World Application

Led by instructors from The Blacksmith Group/P-PIC and Northeast Gas Association staff, the workshop reviews 49 CFR Parts 191 and 192 for distribution and transmission piping systems. Participants will examine regulatory intent, significant distribution-system requirements, compliance implications of the PIPES Act, and useful resources available through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

Classroom learning will be reinforced through visits to the training facility’s learning labs, where participants can connect regulatory theory to field applications such as plastic pipe joining, customer meter and service construction, testing, and leak investigations at Eversource’s state-of-the-art training facility.

Three Days of Focused Learning

Day 1: Foundations, Design, Joining, and Corrosion Control

Day 1 concludes with a take-home knowledge check.

Day 2: Testing, Operations, Maintenance, and Integrity Management

• Test requirements, uprating, and maximum allowable operating pressure
• Operations and maintenance
• Learning labs: leak investigations, leak surveys, pressure regulation, and control
• Distribution integrity management
• Transmission integrity management

Day 2 concludes with a take-home knowledge check.

Day 3: Qualification, Programs, and Final Review

• Operator qualification
• Drug and alcohol programs
• Program overview and participant Q&A
• Final knowledge check
