On July 30th, NGA Pipeline Safety Management System Collaborative continued its Pipeline Safety Management System Engagement Workshop Series. The July 30th virtual workshop, titled Pipeline Safety, Process Safety & Personal Safety - Connecting the Dots of Our Safety Culture, was attended by nearly 60 participants.
During the workshop, participants heard from Bob Richards, Vice Chair of the NGA PSMS Committee, and Manager of Pipeline Safety Management Systems at Unitil. Richards discussed the history of Pipeline Safety, Personal Safety, and Process Safety, as well as how these important, distinct aspects of safety culture interconnect. Rakesh Sadu, Director of Process Safety at National Grid in New York also spoke to attendees. Sadu framed his discussion based on how global incident trends have shaped safety management systems. Sadu went on to discuss connecting the dots of process safety, personal safety and pipeline safety and practical aspects of how an organization can apply these principles with the ultimate goal of risk reduction.
